The couples have little in common except for Fiona Foster and Bob Phillips who are having an affair unbeknown to their partners. Mary & William Detweiler have no idea what is happening although they have been invited to both dinner parties. Confused? So are the characters! Cover-ups and subterfuge are the order of the day in this hilarious play.

Lani Boykin (Mary Detweiler)

Lani is recent to Washington, but has quickly found a happy home at Redwood Theatre. A recent grad of The College of Idaho with a degree in Theatre and Vocal Performance, she is very proud of the fact that she is part of the small percentage of people that actually use the degrees they received in college. This is her third performance with Redwood. In recent past she played the role of Margo in Audition for Murder and Nancy in Gaslight. In the near future Redwood Theatre has trusted her to direct the summer Children’s Musical: Dinosaur, The Musical. She has high hopes and is excited for the opportunity. Currently she is taking on the role of Mary in How the Other Half Loves. This role is very near and dear to her heart as she is a fan of everything Alan Ayckbourn has written.

Patrick Hogan (Frank Foster)

Patrick just finished his all-time favorite role, playing Charlie Cowell in the Driftwood Players’ production of The Music Man. In July, he performed at Driftwood’s Festival of Shorts in a new play called Instant Harmony, and previously, he appeared in the ensemble of Driftwood’s The King and I and Cyrano de Bergerac. Patrick began acting in Olympia, WA, where he performed as Marcel in Capitol Playhouse’s production of The Boy Friend and in the ensemble of Camelot, by Abbey Players. Patrick will also be heard voicing a character in Her Interactive’s new Nancy Drew PC game, The Ghost of Thornton Hill, due out in 2013.

Gavin McLean (William Detweiler)

Gavin is a 2008 Cornish college of the arts graduate and is very excited to be working in this process. Gavin’s last show was Rooster in Renton civic theater’s production of Annie. Some of McLean’s other works include elite 2 in Halo: Reach and bear the 2009 footlights award winning show The Rez: As I Saw It. this will be Gavin’s first production for Redwood Theater.

Amanda Nelson (Teresa Phillips)

Amanda has appeared onstage previously at Redwood, Ghost Light and Tacoma Little Theaters. She earned her degree in drama from the University of Washington. When not acting she likes to knit and make trouble.

Carrie Schnelker (Fiona Foster)

Carrie recently divorced her day job to return to her true love, acting. She appeared in The Peregrine Sonata at Driftwood Players, as the Old Lady in Lyric Opera NW’s Oliver!, and has sung in the chorus of numerous productions. She is thrilled to be part of Redwood Theatre’s How the Other Half Loves, and is delighted to be working with this wonderful and talented group of players.

Christian Ver (Bob Phillips)

Christian is incredibly honored to be working with this very talented cast. A graduate of Seattle University’s Alber’s school of business. His mind is of a business professional. But like his director Steve, his true heart and soul belong on the stage. He hopes you laugh and grind your teeth with anger at the word this cast will present.

Georgia L. Lockwood (Rehearsal Secretary)

Georgia is a veteran of many community musical theater productions, both as a performer and vocal coach. She was pleased to be called out of semi-retirement by long-time friend and sometime fellow performer Steve Scholz to jump in behind the scenes as rehearsal secretary. “I have always loved watching plays get put together, from the first reading to the last curtain, so this is a great treat, and it’s pleasure to watch this talented group work.

Steve Scholz (Director)

Steve Scholz is making his directorial debut with How the Other Half Loves. He has appeared in many Redwood productions, most recently playing the role of Inspector Rough in the thriller Gaslight (aka Angel Street). He also performed in Deathtrap, Scapino, The Cat’s Meow, Captain Instrinsic and Star on the Door. “I feel so lucky to be working with very a talented cast.”

Shaken up, but not hurt, they seek help in an isolated building—it turns out to be an old Grange hall which has been converted into a community theatre. They arrive just in time for Audition for Murder.

I feel compelled to use far too many exclamation points in what follows! Luge like excitement isn’t what we’re normally used to during the summer at Redwood but I have lots of fun things to report-

Our next show is a very funny mystery comedy set at the audition for a community theatre production with auditions at the end of the month. The clues come out as the bodies pile up! You may have noticed that the director of our next show is also one of its authors. Keith McGregor has written and published numerous shows with his partner of 28 years Howard Voland. You can find out more about Keith and Howard’s work at www.ravenwriters.com.

Capitol Grant

Thank you 4Culture! We have received notification that we have been selected to receive a capitol grant from the 4Culture program for the purchase of auxiliary lighting equipment; stands, dimmers, and instruments. Beyond giving us flexibility in lighting things at the Fred Meitzer space at the senior center this also opens up the possibility to do simple smaller things in smaller spaces in between our regular season of three shows.

2013 Season

Shows? Right! We do have a season selected- Alan Ayckbourn’s intricate comedy Bedroom Farce in February, Joseph Robinette’s dramatization of L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Avonlea in April and a musical in the summer. Finally, we return to the work of author Alan Ayckbourn in the fall with his ingeniously set parallel stories in How the Other Half Loves. Expect more information about the 2013 season along with season ticket information in the coming months.

Did I say summer musical??! Yes! I said The Dinosaur Musical! There’s always lots to dance & sing about after a huge pretty flaming rock falls out of the sky; join us this time next year for a summer family musical that proves the point. Will the Treaty of Meat between the carnivores and the herbivores hold? The Dinosaur Musical is the work of brothers Robert and Willie Reale, known for their Tony® nominated Broadway musical retelling of A Year with Frog and Toad.

Theatre Upgrades

Splinters be banned! With support from Coinstar/Redbox (the nice people who count your change, rent you movies and keep coming up with an ever growing list of automated retail products and services) our venerable Mk I plywood risers that have supported Redwood audiences for the last 18 years are scrap. The Mk II is a continental style stackable folding riser custom built by volunteer elves in their workshop caves deep in the wilds of Redmond. The rake (the rise between rows) has been doubled to improve sight lines.

Do Something Good

Interested in volunteering to usher, set up chairs, or sweep up after? Paint something and then pick it up and move it someplace? Repeatedly and on cue? All of the above!?! Send a quick hello and send an email to volunteers@redwoodtheatre.org and opportunities to say “sure!” or “not this time!”, with either being a reasonable answer, will suddenly begin to present themselves!
